Creating Automata (Mechanical Toys) Made of Cardboard!!

I tried making an automaton using only things found at home. The main materials include cardboard, glue, wire, straws, bamboo skewers, paper, and tape. For coloring, I intentionally used acrylic paint with a bold and rough style.

I believe the roughly painted traces of the acrylic paint blend well with this cardboard automaton.

The first one is an automaton I created for this year's Halloween, where the design changes. When you flip the top panel, the designs on the other panels change one by one. Eventually, it becomes a completely different and mysterious mechanism.

The second one is a bird automaton that I made modeled after the Java sparrow that lives with us. When you turn the handle, its wings flap up and down.

The third one is an automaton where turning the handle makes the head shake or spin around. The actual movement is a bit different from what I had in mind, but I'm okay with that too. This pair creates a mechanism that allows for various interpretations of what they might be thinking.

I made a curtain using fabric I had at home for the lower part. To showcase the intriguing movement of the automaton, I hung the curtain so that it can be observed.
